The Book That Helps Leaders Find Answers by Asking Better Questions

There’s a moment that nearly every business owner or leader hits. It doesn’t matter if you’re running a solo practice or managing a growing company with multiple departments—you eventually find yourself facing a wall of uncertainty.
What’s next? Am I leading well? Is this the business I want—or just the one I’ve built?
If any of that sounds familiar, you’re not alone—and you’re exactly who we wrote Conversations for Clarity: Critical Questions Leaders Must Ask for.
| Over a year ago, the three people who form Success Authorities decided they needed to co-author a book. Over numerous video cast episodes of Conversation Street, we recognised the power of the right question, asked at the right time, that changed the trajectory of a business—and a life. In our work with CEOs, founders, and leadership teams across various industries, one pattern emerged: the most successful leaders were not necessarily those with the best ideas. They were the ones who created time and space to think clearly and asked themselves the questions others were afraid to. So, Linda Ruhland, Peter Beaumont, and Ronn Lehmann wrote this book as a guide for doing just that. |
As coaches, advisors, and business owners ourselves, we’ve seen firsthand how powerful it is when a leader steps out of the whirlwind of daily demands and takes time to reflect deeply and intentionally. But we’ve also seen how rare those moments are. Leadership can become a cycle of reaction, where space to think clearly feels like a luxury. That’s a problem.
Clarity shouldn’t be a luxury. It should be a tool—and a habit.
So, we wrote this book to provide just that: a simple but powerful guide to help leaders think clearly, make better decisions, and grow their organizations with purpose.
Why Questions—Not Answers—Are the Key to Leadership
The core premise of the book is simple: the most effective leaders aren’t the ones with all the answers. They’re the ones who are willing to ask the right questions. Questions open doors. They break through assumptions. They help you see what’s working, what’s not, and where you might be in your own way.
The book is built around ten essential questions, each explored in a short chapter packed with real-world examples, practical insights, and actionable tools. From “What kind of business do you want?” to “How will you replace yourself?”, the questions aren’t theoretical—they’re the actual forks-in-the-road that every leader faces at some point.
We deliberately kept each chapter focused and digestible. You can read one in 20–30 minutes. But the real magic happens afterward, in what we call a Clarity Break.
Your New Favorite Business Habit: Clarity Breaks
At the end of each chapter, you’ll find a summary and a set of action steps—a checklist of prompts and exercises to help you apply what you’ve just read. This is your opportunity to pause, think, and work on the business instead of constantly being stuck in it.
We encourage readers to schedule a Clarity Break with each chapter—set aside 60 minutes total to reflect, write, and decide what action to take. That’s it. One hour per chapter, one game-changing insight at a time.
And we’ve seen what happens when leaders commit to this rhythm. They make better decisions. They spot issues before they become crises. They lead more confidently and communicate more clearly. Most importantly, they start designing the business—and the life—they actually want.
Built for Business Owners at Every Stage
Whether you’re launching something new, scaling a fast-growing company, or even preparing to exit, Conversations for Clarity meets you where you are. Each chapter stands alone, so you can read them in order or jump straight to the question that’s most pressing right now.
The structure of the book also makes it a great tool for leadership teams. Use a chapter as the basis for a team offsite. Assign one per month as a leadership development series. Or keep it handy for your quarterly EOS meetings or strategic planning sessions.
Our approach draws on decades of combined experience across leadership coaching, strategic growth, cultural alignment, and communication. We wrote this book as a team—Linda Ruhland, Peter Beaumont, and Ronn Lehmann—bringing together our diverse backgrounds to give leaders a wide-angle lens on their business.
We’re part of a group called Success Authorities, and we’ve spent years helping CEOs and business owners ask better questions. In fact, the book grew out of a series we hosted called Conversation Street, where we explored these very topics with entrepreneurs and executives from all over the country.
It’s Not Just a Book—It’s a Decision-Making Companion
At its heart, Conversations for Clarity is more than a book. It’s a companion for your journey as a leader. Something to turn to when you’re stuck, or uncertain, or just need to step back and realign.
We’ve had readers tell us they use it as a weekly ritual. Others keep it on their desks to revisit during planning seasons or after tough leadership meetings. However you use it, we hope it helps you do what it helped us do: find clarity in the chaos.
Because in the end, clarity isn’t just about insight—it’s about action. And action starts with the right question.
